How to assemble a printable box step by step

A well built box takes under ten minutes when you follow the right order. These steps apply to the printable boxes, bags and packaging in the shop.

Step 1: print on cardstock

Print the design at 100 percent on cardstock between 180 and 250 gsm. Let the ink dry for a couple of minutes before touching the surface.

Step 2: cut the outline

Cut along the outer edge. Use scissors on the curves and a craft knife with a metal ruler on straight lines for a clean edge.

Step 3: score the folds

Run a bone folder, the closed tip of your scissors or an empty pen along every fold line, always against the ruler. This is the step that keeps the box square.

Step 4: fold in order

Fold the long sides first, then the tabs. Press each crease with your fingernail so it holds.

Step 5: glue the tabs

Apply liquid glue or a glue stick to the tabs and press for 20 to 30 seconds. Start with the side tab, the one that gives the body its shape.

Step 6: fill it and close

Let it dry for a few minutes, fill it with candy or your gift and close the lid. For an extra touch, add a hanging tag or a sticker over the closure.
